We know that LGBTQ+ young people can face challenges and stresses as they navigate their day to day life. This webinar is a space for their loved ones to learn how to best support and understand their needs.
Belong To and Pieta will host a free online webinar for parents and guardians of LGBTQ+ young people. At this event, Belong To’s Family Support Worker and members of the clinical team from Pieta will share advice and guidance on how to support young people through challenges faced growing up LGBTQ+.
When: Wednesday, 25 September 2024 from 7pm to 8.15pm.
This webinar is designed to help you navigate common challenges, more serious issues and how to support LGBTQ+ young people in your life to proactively cultivate good mental wellbeing.
Topics Covered
The webinar will cover mental health challenges, and how to support LGBTQ+ young people through them, including:
- Proactively managing good mental wellbeing.
- Self-esteem.
- Self-doubt.
- Self-harm.
- Suicidal ideation.
- Information on services and supports available for LGBTQ+ young people and their families.
Speakers will include:
- Dr Brendan J. Dunlop (he/him), Principal Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist;
- Nash Zvikaramba (she/her), Psychotherapist with Pieta with over 10 years of experience working with at-risk young people; and
- the Family Support Service team at Belong To.
This event is registration only and will last 1 hour 15 minutes. There will be an opportunity for attendees to put some of their questions to our panel of experts.

This event is taking place as part of the Belong To #BetterOutThanIn campaign which encourages LGBTQ+ young people to open up about how they are feeling and drive awareness of the importance of reaching out for help.
