Answer
It is wonderful news that your young person was able to share this information with you. This is likely something they have known for some time and have been working up to telling you.
Give yourself time to come to terms with the situation, and while you do that, be mindful that your child needs your support now more than ever. Keep communication open around the topic, we would encourage some allyship in the home, for instance watching LGBTQ+ series like Heartstopper or movies such as Handsome Devil or Dating Aamber.
It is important for your young person to feel accepted in their home.
It is also really helpful for your young person to connect to the LGBTQ+ community. Depending on the age of your young person, they could join an LGBTQ+ youth group, these are based all around the country and you can find your nearest one here. https://www.belongto.org/find-a-youth-group/
